When to use cards

When should you reach for a card instead of ACH?

Cards cost more than bank transfers, but they're instant and frictionless. Here's where they shine.

Small invoices

On lower amounts the percentage fee is modest, and instant payment beats waiting a few days for ACH to clear. Card just makes sense.

New clients

When you don't yet have a relationship, a familiar card checkout removes hesitation and gets you paid sooner — no bank-login step to explain.

Time-sensitive work

Need the funds today? Card payments typically settle instantly, so you're not waiting on a transfer to clear before you can move.

How it works

Accept a card payment in three steps

  1. Connect your bank

A one-time onboarding links the account where card payouts are deposited. No merchant account, no monthly fee.

    1
  2. Send the invoice

Your invoice ships with a 'Pay now' link offering both card and bank. The client picks card for instant payment.

    2
  3. Funds deposited

The card clears instantly, PayNugget marks the invoice paid, and the money is deposited to your account.

Best of both

Offer card and bank on one pay page

You don't have to choose between cheap and fast. Every PayNugget invoice presents both ACH and card, so the client decides. Many businesses default clients toward bank transfer to save on fees while keeping card available for instant convenience.

However your clients pay, the result is the same on your end: the invoice is marked paid automatically and the money lands in your bank account. No manual reconciliation, no chasing.

Card payments: frequently asked questions

What cards can my clients use?
Clients can pay with all major credit and debit cards — Visa, Mastercard, and American Express — plus common digital wallets. They pay on a secure page straight from your invoice, with no account or app to download.
What is the card processing fee?
Card payments are charged at the standard network rate of about 2.9% + 30¢ per transaction. We're upfront about this: PayNugget does not claim to beat the card-network rate. Where we save you money is by offering low-cost ACH bank payments as the default and by charging no monthly subscription.
Why offer cards if ACH is cheaper?
Speed and convenience. Card payments usually settle instantly, and some clients simply prefer to pay by card. Offering both ACH and card on the same pay page means you never lose a payment to friction — clients who want the cheapest route choose bank, and those who want instant choose card.
How fast do card payments arrive?
Card payments are typically processed instantly and then deposited to your connected bank account. That makes cards a good fit for smaller or time-sensitive invoices where you want funds right away.
Is there a monthly fee to accept cards?
No. There is no subscription to switch on card payments. You pay only the per-transaction processing fee when a client actually pays you. Connect your bank once during onboarding and you're ready to accept cards.
Are card payments secure?
Yes. Card details are entered on a secure, encrypted checkout and handled by the payment processor — they are never stored by you. Your client's sensitive information stays protected throughout.
